My name is Alyssa. My husband and I have two kids, soon to be four and two. Before choosing to be a full-time mom and homemaker, I received my Master of Divinity. One of my greatest joys in motherhood has been teaching my kids about God. There are many aspects of homemaking that do not come naturally to me. Sometimes I have to redo loads of stinky laundry because I’ve forgotten about them in the washer. I love my children and desperately want to love playing with them, but I set timers for myself so that I know how much longer until I have permission to leave my imagination behind. The morning that we spent making and playing with moon sand (and the subsequent clean up) nearly did me in. We haven’t painted in over a month. I have never taken away TV time as a consequence because I love it so dearly. I recently interrogated several of my friends as to the specifics of how they manage to finish cleaning their kitchens before 10pm. There are many areas of motherhood that are a real struggle for me, many of which I’m sure come quite naturally to you, dear reader. But man, oh man, do I love reading my kids Bible stories, dancing together while singing worship music, finding creative ways to hide God’s Word in our hearts, creating and inviting them into meaningful celebrations, seeing connections made in their growing minds, and interpreting our world for them through the lens of faith!
